My first plait design

The prototype of my first plait design is finished! I still need to work on the “neatness” of my braids, but I simply haven’t had much experience in this area so far, even though I’ve known for a long time how this technique works in theory.

And this is how this design came about:
Unfortunately, the “A Thousand and One Suns” jumper with the round yoke has really put me in a bad mood, because even after trying a size larger, I still couldn’t lift my arms – and the body was waaaaaaaay too loose for me. I still love this pattern, though, and I’ll find a way to make this jumper fit me and my shoulders. Just not right now… I’m going to sulk a bit first. hehe

But to cheer myself up, I decided to create my own design – at least that way I knew I’d fit in. And it had been on my mind for quite some time anyway.

With just a single braid placed in the centre.

The back

With three braids placed side by side.

(INFO: unpaid & unsolicited advertising, as yarn used is mentioned)

For this project, I used the fantastic Upcycled Alpaca Blend (Limited Edition) by Hobbii in the colour Bordeaux (34). It’s wonderfully soft, holds its shape well despite the alpaca content (composition: 33% alpaca, 33% wool and 34% acrylic), and is even more sustainable than other yarns thanks to the partially recycled fibres. However, it’s hand wash only, but that’s actually the case with all alpaca yarns I’ve come across so far, and despite my greatest possible aversion to hand washing, I’ve come to really appreciate the qualities of alpaca wool.
