I actually dared to give it a try. 🙂 My first stranded colourwork project and I’m already quite pleased with it.
However, it took me a few attempts to find ‘my’ technique, where I can get the tension of the threads just right, not too loose and not too tight. In the end, this meant holding one thread in my left hand and knitting this colour normally, while holding the other thread in my right hand and winding this thread (second colour) around the needle to work with.
I can’t say why this method suits me best, but that’s the way it is.
Other techniques I tried and reasons why I decided against them!
I’ve tried holding both threads in my left hand and knitting alternately, or using a ring with both threads threaded through to keep them apart. But the threads always got tangled and I couldn’t get the tension right. So, after some searching on the internet, I came up with ‘my’ current favourite method, and even though it looks strange or complicated, I now really enjoy using it.
This is how my project looks at the moment:
and here is a view of the inside:
Yes, I know the colours aren’t particularly striking, but I really like them and I also had in mind that this way any mistakes might not be quite so noticeable. Hehehe
